"I’m Going Out of My Way" (2020) is an animated video of Nikki, a sex doll I have owned for more than a decade. She's a recurring subject I revisit every few years, an object I subject to different processes and photograph in different situations. Nikki is an object that resonates with me, as a designed, mass produced object that is somebody’s rudimentary interpretation of what ‘makes’ a woman. In this piece created during the mandatory lockdown, Nikki has become a sort of allegorical clock. She becomes breath, an endlessly long inhaling and exhaling, ebbing and flowing.
